INTRODUCTION A.CBRN decontamination operations generate a great deal of waste, much of it hazardous, including: 1.Liquids, solids and gases from the decontamination of personnel, vehicles, equipment, aircraft, terrain and infrastructure; and 2.Discarded equipment, material and consumables that cannot be decontaminated or that are not worth decontaminating. Contaminated waste control procedures Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

Contaminated waste control procedures Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence A.Contaminated equipment, material and consumables: it will not always be possible or practical to decontaminate all equipment, material and consumables due to type, material and size, the time and decontamination resources available, as well as the tactical situation. This applies to all military equipment and consumables, not just those associated with CBRN protection. Provided replacement equipment and consumables are available, it may not be worthwhile to spend the time and resources to decontaminate them.

B.Contaminated equipment and consumables discarded during decontamination operations should be controlled 1.Left on site and quarantined 2.Sealed in appropriate containers or by other means suitable for transportation, Contaminated waste control procedures Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

C.Contaminated equipment, material and supplies may be buried. 1.Placement in a pit lined with an impermeable material (natural or man- made) and sealed over; or 2.Sealed in impermeable containers, drums or bags, and then buried. Contaminated waste control procedures Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

D.Contaminated clothing and protective equipment, as well as material used in the decontamination effort and the resulting waste should be collected at the site, and: 1.Sealed in plastic bags, buried and marked for subsequent removal and disposal; or 2.Burned, if combustible and tactical situation permits, produces no additional hazards. Contaminated waste control procedures Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

CBRN officer responsibilities Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

2.CBRN DEFENCE OPERATIONS: a)Supervising the operation of the CBRN centre, including the collection, analysis, display and reporting of CBRN information; b)Keeping the commander and CP staff informed of the current CBRN situation; c)Supervising collective protection or fallout shelter operations; d)Monitoring the collective protection, or fallout shelter, radiation exposure state when personnel are ordered to a shelter posture; e)Coordinating decontamination operations. CBRN officer responsibilities Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ?

Question 1 CBRN staff responsibilities are divided into two categories, what are they? CBRN officer responsibilities

Answer 1 CBRN defence preparations and CBRN defence operations. CBRN officer responsibilities

1.Personal decontamination line procedures 2.Contaminated waste control procedures 3.CBRN officer responsibilities 4.Aim and characteristics of the CBRN protective equipment Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

Aim and characteristics of the CBRN protective equipment Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

INTRODUCTION The CBRN protective coverall, like your protective mask, is a vital element in CBRN survival. 1.Aim and characteristics of CBRN coverall a)Aim: designed to protect you against chemical and biological agents radioactive dust and thermal radiation. Aim and characteristics of the CBRN protective equipment Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

b)Description 1)The Horizon 1 chemical defence (CD) coverall is a hooded one piece garment consisting of a CADPAT™ outer layer is treated with a liquid agent repellent finish to resist the ingress of liquid CW agents. Aim and characteristics of the CBRN protective equipment Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

2)Three patches are provided for secure adhesion of chemical agent detector paper. Each coverall comes in a sealed factory package with a label to indicate size, manufacturing date and packaging date. The suit comes in all variety of sizes, matching the size of your combat shirt 3)A training version of the coverall of the same design and construction as the operational garment but without CW protective properties is available. The shell material is the same as on the operational version. The words TRAINING/ENTRAÎNEMENT will be stitched onto the back. Aim and characteristics of the CBRN protective equipment Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

c)Physical description/capabilities/limitations 1)In typical field conditions, the inner layer of the CD coverall slows the penetration of vapours and liquid chemical agents for 24 hours. The CD coverall can provide 21 days of continuous protection from chemical agent vapour. 2)The CD coverall is not designed for use in environments with concentrations of liquid or vapour chemical agents significantly greater than that expected in battlefield conditions, Aim and characteristics of the CBRN protective equipment Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

3)The CD coverall is stable in storage and has no shelf life limitation. Warning : Do not use reactive skin decontaminant lotion (RSDL) to decontaminate the CD coverall. RSDL gradually deteriorates the protective characteristics of the charcoal liner. The inactive skin decontaminant training lotion has the same effect. Aim and characteristics of the CBRN protective equipment Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

2.Characteristics of CBRN gloves a)Description 1)The CBRN protective glove system, provides protection from chemical and biological agents and from radioactive contamination. 2)The glove system has two parts: a moulded, gauntlet-style anti-static butyl rubber shell (glove) and a lightweight knitted liner. Corrugations in the glove facilitate flexing at the fingers and palm. Textured fingertips and palm enhance grip. The shell is ambidextrous and is available in seven sizes. Aim and characteristics of the CBRN protective equipment Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence

b)Physical description/capabilities/limitations 1)The gloves’ rubber shell layer provides 24 hours of protection against exposure to liquid chemical agents. This duration can be extended if the gloves are properly decontaminated. 2)The rubber shell is degraded by exposure to petroleum products (POL). When handling gasoline, aviation fuel or diesel fuel, users should wear proper POL protective gloves over their CBRN glove system. Aim and characteristics of the CBRN protective equipment Apply CF policies and procedures for CBRN defence
