Presentation transcript:

“ROYALS” (Performed by Lorde) WRITING Second Conditionals

NOTE FOR THE TEACHER: The slide presentation that follows is enough for the activity proposed here, so there is no need to have the student´s sheet photocopied, unless you want students to have it in the end. REQUIREMENT: Students must have learned the second conditionals. HOW TO PROCEED: 1.Before playing the song, show students the slides first and go over the vocabulary, so that the meaning of the lyrics will sink in. 2.At this point, students can engage into a brief conversation on the author´s point of view. 3.Now, show the slides again along with the song, so students can check what song this is. Allow them to sing along if they will. 4.Finally, students engage into a written task on the topic.

Which would you choose? Fame or fortune? Explain. I would choose…because… I wouldn´t choose…because… If I had fame, I would… If I had fortune, I would… BEFORE LISTENING Which would you prefer? FAME or FORTUNE? (Explain)

WHILE LISTENING Listen to the song and find out what the author thinks about having money.

I´VE NEVER SEEN A DIAMOND IN THE FLASH

I CUT MY TEETH ON WEDDING RINGS IN THE MOVIES Cut one´s teeth on = Get experience on

But every song's like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin' in the bathroom Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room

WE DON’T CARE, WE´RE DRIVING CADILLACS IN OUR DREAMS

But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your time piece Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash

WE DON’T CARE, WE AREN´T CAUGHT UP IN YOUR LOVE AFFAIR

AND WE´LL NEVER BE ROYALS

IT DON’T RUN IN OUR BLOOD

THAT KIND OF LUX JUST AIN’T FOR US

WE CRAVE A DIFFERENT KIND OF BUZZ

LET ME BE YOUR RULER, YOU CAN CALL ME QUEEN BEE AND MAYBE I’LL RULE, LET ME LIVE THAT FANTASY

MY FRIENDS AND I, WE’VE CRACKED THE CODE

WE COUNT OUR DOLLARS ON THE TRAIN TO THE PARTY

AND EVERYONE WHO KNOWS US KNOWS THAT WE’RE FINE WITH THIS, WE DIDN’T COME FOR MONEY

OOH OH OOH OH OOH OH WE’RE BIGGER THAN WE EVER DREAMED AND I’M IN LOVE WITH BEING QUEEN

Life OOH OH OOH OH OOH OH LIFE IS GREAT WITHOUT A CARE WE AREN’T CAUGHT UP IN YOUR LOVE AFFAIR

AND WE´LL NEVER BE ROYALS

IT DON’T RUN IN OUR BLOOD

THAT KIND OF LUX JUST AIN’T FOR US

WE CRAVE A DIFFERENT KIND OF BUZZ

LET ME BE YOUR RULER, YOU CAN CALL ME QUEEN BEE AND MAYBE I’LL RULE, LET ME LIVE THAT FANTASY
