 Newspapers/News  History  Geography  Science  Museums  Excursions  Travel

 Prompt them to research further;  Suggest books/ websites;  Be aware of new vocabulary;  Encourage use of broader vocabulary;  Model new language;  Challenge them;  Ask them to challenge you;  Provide supports needed- atlas, dictionary, scrapbooks etc.;  Praise efforts to extend their knowledge and interests.

 Encourage your child to be the best they can be;  Let them know regularly that you believe in them;  Teach them to value education and point out the difference it will make to their lives.

 Give them more responsibility and expect them to rise to the challenge;  Place emphasis on child taking a mature attitude to work and helping at home;  Teach them that their schoolwork is their responsibility now;  Really believe that they are up to the increased challenge.

 Healthy mind in a healthy body;

 What is the point?  Homework is your daughter’s responsibility;  Find a routine that works for your family and stick to it;  Check and sign-do not correct;  Teach them to strive to give of their very best consistently;  Corrections;  Communicate with teacher.

 Make time and space for reading in your home;  Model your own love of reading;  Read some of your children’s books (novels ) and share excitement of story and discuss characters;  Library/ swap books/ charity shops/Book People/ Kindle/ E-books/ Audio books;  Expose to a range of genres.

 Tables-now or never!!!!  Maths in everyday life;  Share your use of maths in work place;  Board games for all the family;  Use of Apps to improve problem –solving skills and computation/ calculation skills  Presentation of Maths homework- Steps;  Use of Calculation Column;  Answer highlighted in RED;  Check mistakes and correct;  Early detection of problems vital.
