Why is cell division important? Cell division is important because ALL living things are made up of cells. It is also important because it goes as far as broken tissue to growth and development.

Mitosis Mitosis is the entire process of cell division , including the division of the nucleus, cytoplasm, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.

Nucleus The nucleus is the control center of a cell. It contains the synthesis of hereditary information (DNA) and controls the cell’s growth and reproduction.

Asexual Reproduction Sexual reproduction usually involves two parent organisms. However in asexual reproduction a new organism, sometimes more than one, is produced from only one parent.

Chromosome Chromosomes are long strips of gene codes that duplicate again and again to pass on the same genetic information.

Prophase Is the first stage of mitosis and meiosis in which the chromatid pairs and asters are visible, the spindle is beginning to form.

Metaphase During metaphase the chromatid pairs unite in the center of the cell, the spindle fibers are now touching the centromere of each pair.

Anaphase In anaphase each centromere divides, the spindle fibers begin to shorten, and the separated chromatids move to the other side of the cell.

Telophase Finally, in the last phase the cytoplasm is beginning to separate forming two new cells. The spindle fibers begin to disappear.

Telophase Finally, in the last phase the cytoplasm is beginning to separate forming two new cells. The spindle fibers begin to disappear.

Haploid Cells that do not have pairs of chromosomes, such as sex cells.

Egg + sperm=fertilization An egg is a sex cell formed in the female reproductive organs, the sperm is also a sex cell however, it’s formed in the male reproductive organs. When the egg and the sperm join that is called fertilization.

Zygote Is the result of the fertilization, the cell.

Sexual Reproduction Sexual Reproduction is the process in which two sex cells (a sperm and an egg) come together.

Meiosis Meiosis is a two-part cell division in organisms that sexually reproduce. It produces haploid sex cells, and has the same steps as mitosis: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.
