Math Vocabulary Words Ciara McFall

Integer any of the natural numbers, the negatives of these numbers, or zero.

Rational Number a number that can be expressed as an integer or the quotient of an integer divided by a nonzero integer

Scientific Notation a widely used floating-point system in which numbers are expressed as products consisting of a number between 1 and 10 multiplied by an appropriate power of 10

Perfect Square an integer (as 9 or 36) whose square root is an integer

Irrational Number a number that can be expressed as an infinite decimal with no set of consecutive digits repeating itself indefinitely and that cannot be expressed as the quotient of two integers

Real Number a number that has no imaginary part

Destiny Property the mass of a substance per unit volume

Adjacent Angles Two angles having the same vertex and having a common side between them.

Coefficient a number that serves as a measure of some property or characteristic

Distance Formula the degree or amount of separation between two points, lines, surfaces, or objects

Domain In mathematics, the domain of definition or simply the domain of a function is the set of "input" or argument values for which...

Hyposyensue the side of a right-angled triangle that is opposite the right angle

Legs of a right Triangle As with any triangle, the area is equal to one half the base multiplied by the corresponding height

Range In mathematics, the range of a function refers to the output of a function, but there is not universal agreement on the subject of

Slope the acute angle made by a meridional ray with the axis in a symmetrical optical system

Prism a polyhedron with two polygonal faces lying in parallel planes and with the other faces parallelograms

Scatter plot A graph of plotted points that show the relationship between two sets of data

Slope intercept from the equation of a straight line in the form y = mx + b where m is the slope of the line and b is its y-intercept
