Juan Antonio Rubio ETT Division meeting April ETT Education and Technology Transfer Division Juan Antonio Rubio

Juan Antonio Rubio ETT Division meeting April Mandate To demonstrate the relevance to society of particle physics both in terms of pure research and its applications. To advance the image of fundamental research performed at CERN and collaborating institutes, and to promote these organizations as generators of technology (Education and Communication). To identify, develop and communicate technical innovation to industry and to scientists in other fields (Technology Transfer). To keep and update the CERN Library and scientific Archives (Scientific Information). To provide solutions in the area of Document and Information Management, in particular for Education & Communication, Technology Transfer and Scientific Information (Document Handling).

Juan Antonio Rubio ETT Division meeting April Technology Transfer  Successful implementation of the pro-active TT policy approved by the MS in 1999 and extended in Many results in the exploiting CERN technologies both through licensing and partnership. - Important progress in pre-competitive developments of technologies belonging to the main domains of application (information technologies, medical imaging and hadron therapy). - Others in the pipeline (energy, materials…) - TT promotion and other results.  The total TT revenue generated has grown from 230 kCHF to 2370 kCHF in 2002, thus covering the marginal cost of TT operation ETT-TT

Juan Antonio Rubio ETT Division meeting April Education and Communication  Three main targets: General Public, Schools and HEP. Many results. Journalist visits, Press releases, Video News, upgrading of Microcosms, Web Public pages, venues of the travelling exhibition, brochures, webcasting programmes, local events, etc. ESTI initiative with EIROforum based on the HST’s programme and “Physics on Stage”. External funding and sponsoring: 600 kCHF (1/3 of E&C material budget). ETT-EC

Juan Antonio Rubio ETT Division meeting April Scientific Information Collection of more than 600,000 documents (250,000 full-text), more than in 2002 Scientific journals: 450 paper editions 1200 electronic editions Book circulation enlarged and improved. Also ELL. Archives collection enlarged. Exhibitions (Fermi and Heisenberg) Organized. Entirely satisfactory Library and Archives service E-publishing promotion. ETT-SI
