Joint Master’s Degree in Sustainable Automotive Engineering The skills and knowledge to design tomorrow’s vehicles Programme developed by a consortium of 4 European universities in Belgium, the United Kingdom, France and Spain Starting September 2016

This Master programme will cover different aspects of electric and hybrid electric powertrains, combustion engines, emission standards, fuel cell technology, energy storage in batteries, supercapacitors and flywheels, and the smart grid. Innovative technology will be taught at component and at system levels, using simulation tools to solve advanced engineering problems. There will be courses on control and calibration, vehicle modelling, vehicle dynamics, lightweight structures, new sustainable materials and recycling, electro-mobility and intelligent transportation systems. Students will develop soft skills such as intercultural communication, entrepreneurship and management techniques. In the second year of the programme, students will spend 6 months on an industrial internship and undertake research for their final Master’s thesis. All classes will be taught in English. Opportunities to study the language of each country where the programme is taught will be available. Automotive companies face the challenge of adapting to a changing world. Fossil fuels are running out, CO 2 emissions must be reduced, exhaust gases must be cleaner. It is essential to develop alternative and renewable energy sources for the future. The impact of human mobility and the transport industry on the World’s ecosystems and on climate change should be minimised, especially in the emerging and very large Asian markets. Year 1 of the degree will be spent at 3 different universities. During the first term, students will take 21 credits of Automotive core courses at the University of Antwerp. For the second term they switch to Loughborough University where they will complete another 21 core credits. In the third term, students will specialise for 18 credits either at the University of Deusto in Bilbao, Spain or at the University of Bordeaux in France. Year 2 of the Master is spent in work placement and research for the final thesis. Both the 6-month internship (30 credits) and the 6- month thesis (30 credits) may be carried out in a company, in one of the Universities of the partnership, in a research centre, or in another approved university or organisation. Our associate partners are leading actors in the automotive field and students will be participating in exciting and innovative projects. Programme Introduction
