Iraq No End In Sight

In the beginning.. The invasion of Iraq began on March 20, 2003, led by the US and the United Kingdom. Reasons for Invasion: To disarm Iraq of WMD To end Saddam Hussein's support for terrorism To free the Iraqi people.

In December of 2003, Saddam was captured and put on trial. In November of 2006, he was convicted of charges related to 1982 killing of 148 Iraqi Shi’ites On December 30th 2006, Saddam was executed by hanging.

Deaths & Cost of the war.. Iraq's first official accounting in October of 2009 shows 85,000 dead over almost 5 years of war.

[ Mistakes of the war ] // Paul Bremer Paul Bremer decided to disband the Iraqi Army. Second, Bremer also set up a de-Ba’athification program. This caused resentment among the Sunnis. The U.S. lost millions of dollars in damages due to no one stopping the looting and slowed the administration of Iraq, which really made the Americans look powerless. The Coalition Provisional Authority implemented a free trade policy, which failed at turning Iraq into a capitalist country. It also added to their unemployment problem.

My Thoughts… My thoughts on the war have completely changed since we started talking about it in class, and since we watched No End In Sight. I never really knew what we were doing over there to help. But it’s funny because come to find out this whole operation needed way more planning then it had and may have done more damage than good. Obama announced we will pull our troops out of Iraq in Who knows if we will really pull them out by then, and what are we doing to fix what we’ve already done? It would be nice to see Iraq with a functioning government and a peaceful place, but I don’t know.. Things seem pretty bad already.
