The goal of our Physical Education curriculum is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a variety of physical activities throughout their life. 5 th Grade Unit Examples Swimming Track and Field Zumba Fitness (dance) Frisbee Golf Cooperative Games Ultimate Frisbee Team Handball Soccer Football Volleyball Hockey Basketball

 Learn history of how the game of Basketball originated  Learn individual skills necessary in order to successfully shoot, dribble, and pass.  Learn how to cooperate and work with peers in order to successfully participate in small games. NYS Learning Standard #2

 Increase Fitness levels through participation in games. NYS Learning standard #1  Learn about opportunities that exist for participation outside of the PE class (Recreation, YMCA, Modified sports). NYS Learning Standard #3  Demonstrate knowledge of skills and content through a written assessment at the conclusion of the unit.

 Dance Fitness Unit  Learn and apply Cardio-respiratory, Muscular Strength and Endurance Concepts through participation. (NYS Learning Standard 1A and 1B)  Learn about international rhythms (currently merenge, salsa, cha-cha, reggaeton, cumbia)  Learn about community opportunities for participation (NYS Learning Standard #3)  Collaborate with their classmates to come up with and share original dance variations. (NYS Learning Standard #2)
