Course Structure

What is Media Studies? This may be difficult to put into words, but it is important that we recognise what we are studying. Attempt to write an explanation, or to brainstorm some ideas as to what media studies is.

Attempt to write an explanation, or to brainstorm some ideas as to what media studies is. The media is a term used to describe all the ways in which messages can be communicated to a large audience.

Media Platforms Platforms are the different channels through which these messages are communicated. The three dominant platforms are: BROADCAST (film, TV, radio, moving image adverts) PRINT (magazines, newspapers, print adverts) E-MEDIA (websites, apps)

Media Platforms The different things that we consume on each of these platforms (TV shows we watch, newspapers we read, websites we browse) are referred to as media texts. In three columns below, write down 5 media texts under each platform. Try to include a variation.
