Beavercreek High School BYOD Student Training: Digital Citizenship & Acceptable Use Policy

Our goal... BCSD offers Wi-Fi connectivity for students throughout the Beavercreek High School campus. This allows our high school main campus and Ferguson Hall buildings to embark on a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) initiative. Students who have a laptop, tablet, smartphone, or other personal device will be able to connect to district Wi-Fi and access resources for their educational studies.

Our goal... In order to gain access to the Wi-Fi network, students will need to complete training modules that familiarize them with the with the following concepts: Digital citizenship ISTE Standards The BSCD Acceptable Use policy (AUP). Copyright law

Our goal... Additional training modules cover the following topics: Microsoft 365 student accounts Registering a device and logging on to district Wi-Fi

Our goal... Students will only be provided with the option to register their personal devices on the BHS Wi-Fi network once they have completed all training modules.

Digital Citizenship... … stands for the societal guidelines that dictate what is considered appropriate and responsible use of technology. BCSD wants its students to: be safe and secure develop digital literacy skills demonstrate ethical behavior & a sense of community

ISTE Standards for Students International Society for Technology in Education ISTE provides a universal set of standards for all digital users. These create the foundation of digital citizenship and acceptable use policies. They also attempt to guide users to make good choices when utilizing digital tools and resources.

ISTE Standards for Students International Society for Technology in Education Digital citizenship : Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal/ethical behavior. Critical thinking, problem solving, decision making : Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, and make informed decisions including using appropriate digital tools and resources.

ISTE Standards for Students International Society for Technology in Education Research and information fluency : Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and utilize information. Communication and collaboration : Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively. This work should support the individual's learning and contribute to the learning of others. Creativity and innovation : Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.

BCSD AUP Guidelines… the student friendly version The Beavercreek City School District Acceptable Use Policy defines the behaviors that all network users should adhere to when accessing information and digital tools on the BCSD network. (BOE policy 7540/ ) Breaking these policies can lead to disciplinary consequences as outlined in the student handbook.

BCSD AUP Guidelines… the student friendly version Your BCSD network username(s) and password(s) are yours alone and should NEVER be shared with other users. Sign out of all resources when you are done working. This is especially important when utilizing shared devices (i.e. workstations, Chromebooks).

Never share personal information online. Protect yourself and others by knowing the size and impact of your digital footprint. Once something is shared digitally, it may be impossible to completely erase or delete the item. BCSD AUP Guidelines… the student friendly version

Think before you post… What you do now in a moment of fun may impact you in the future when you’re applying to colleges, job hunting, etc.… Social networking should only be used for positive and productive purposes. Always act and treat others with respect, both in person and online. AUP Guidelines… the student friendly version
