Critical Thinking in English Class An example from Kylie Sturgess’s trench

Not Just for Science…  Critical thinking & skepticism should be ubiquitous  The following materials were developed by Kylie Sturgess for use in teaching 10 th year English  Take as much or as little as you would like from them and adapt them to your needs.

LEFT: A brief description of Kylie’s approach to adding science & skepticism to the English curriculum RIGHT: A clear description of the goals to be met. It is particularly important in the U.S. today to be able to show which standards the curriculum is designed to meet.

LEFT: A worksheet for students to assist them in organizing the goals of the project and the steps they need to go through to meet those goals. BELOW: A worksheet for students to organize notes.

Probably the most useful piece is this guide to writing the report, which includes tips for investigating the claim.

Finally, an example of student work.
