SPEECH STRUCTURE

ATTENTION DEVICE Tool used by speakers to grab the interest of the audience. Using: Quote Story Humor Joke Imagery Call to Action And more

THESIS Clearly written sentence that states the point you expect to make within your speech.

SPEAKER ETHOS An introduction that establishes speaker credibility to the audience, providing the opportunity for the presenter to become familiar to the audience and how she/he knows about this topic.

AUDIENCE ORIENTATION Provides audience members with information that they likely do not have, but will need in order to understand/be interested in the presentation.

PREVIEW MAIN POINTS A courtesy to the audience, this preview provides what points to listen for in the main bodies of your speech.

BODY – MAIN POINTS Main ideas of the speech – at least 3+ sentences to round out your points with explanation.

SUMMARY OF MAIN POINTS Review of the main points in a succinct sentence. Wraps up the main points.

2 ND THESIS The final statement of your topic – going back to the first thesis that serves as a way of pulling the whole speech together. Can be a way to re-state the 1 st thesis in a different way.

CONCLUSION A way to involve the audience in the topic one last time in a memorable way. Using: Quote Story Humor Joke Imagery Call to Action And more
