Open Access - from a Library perspective Susan Ashworth, University of Glasgow Library

How we explain open access to our researchers Unrestricted access (and re-use) of research outputs particularly journal articles and conference papers from publicly funded research. Gold (paid for) - article is immediately freely available. Payment of a fee or ‘Article Processing Charge’ (APC) Green ('free’) Deposit (usually accepted final version) in online repository. Usually an embargo period. University direction - go Green (‘free’) wherever possible

Institutional Repository since 2005 University Publications Policy since 2008 Requirement for deposit of electronic theses Open Access at the University of Glasgow

UK Funder policies on Open Access ) Research Councils UK Charity Open Access Fund Wellcome Trust also require OA for Monographs/book chapters Gold open access

Other ‘Funds' for Open Access

Research Excellence Framework ‘Final peer-reviewed manuscripts must have been deposited in an institutional or subject repository on acceptance for publication’…. Within 3 months of the date of acceptance. Green open access
