Advancing Government through Collaboration, Education and Action Managed by the ET SIG At inception, the DMZ will be managed by the ET SIG, however, the DMZ is branded as a separate entity for optimal platform and collaborative accessibility by each area of ACT-IAC and the member community. 2

Advancing Government through Collaboration, Education and Action PURPOSE The primary objective of the Discovery Management Zone (DMZ) is to provide a forum for ACT-IAC members to collaborate as an innovative technology working group to discover promote and recognize new and inventive IT solutions created by the Federal Government and government contractors to solve a problem where no solution existed. 3

Advancing Government through Collaboration, Education and Action MEMBERSHIP All members of ACT-IAC may participate in the DMZ. DMZ Leadership Team will be an Industry and a Government Co-chair from the ET SIG. Members are also encouraged to participate in an ACT-IAC Shared Interest Group relevant to their own area of expertise. Members may also be called upon to assist with the Vanguard Award.

Advancing Government through Collaboration, Education and Action LEADERSHIP DMZ Leadership Team will be an Industry and a Government Co-chair from the ET SIG and the DMZ Council. DMZ COUNCIL Members are invited to participate as subject matter experts (SME) to be engaged on a volunteer, case-by-case basis based on innovation/business discovery being reviewed or investigated. SMEs will form the Council, and as part of the Leadership Team, may be called upon, or may volunteer, to consult, manage, advise (i.e., council) the projects and/or innovations submitted to the DMZ for discovery management.

Advancing Government through Collaboration, Education and Action SCOPE… transformational services to citizens  The DMZ will focus on exploration of transformational services to citizens (i.e., federal missions, goals and initiatives) by: o Promoting broad collaboration among service sectors and levels of government, improving the business of government o Researching impact of future technological trends on citizens access to and needs for government services o Emerging technologies (product, process, service, & business model) that support and encourage innovation o Industry & Agency - best practices and lessons learned

Advancing Government through Collaboration, Education and Action SCOPE… broaden the dialog among innovation stakeholders  Broaden the dialogue among innovation stakeholders to: o Provide a secure, vendor-neutral community of practice (CoP) for sharing issues or solutions and promoting shared innovations through regular interactions. o Inform them of potential new opportunities to improve service using discovered innovations. o Assist them in finding resources for innovation to solve identified problems.

Advancing Government through Collaboration, Education and Action APPROACH  Target Monthly Meeting:  Discuss the planning of events, topics for white papers and success stories, provide reports of innovations discussed within other ACT-IAC SIGs, and plan for the annual Innovation Awards when necessary.  Contributions to the DMZ web portal by soliciting and coordinating industry and government IT innovation white papers, articles, success stories, opinions, etc.  Pending: During the Innovation Awards period, ACT-IAC Conferences and related events, meetings will be more frequent to plan, review and evaluate nominations as they pertain to member’s responsibilities.

Advancing Government through Collaboration, Education and Action LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS  Attend and participate in monthly meetings  Coordinate and collaborate with other ACT-IAC SIGs with regards to identifying technology innovations  Reach out and solicit topics and speakers for panels, town hall meetings, and white papers  Through discussions and monthly meetings, vetting the difference between true innovations and emerging technologies  Report outcomes of each meeting to ET SIG and other participating SIGS  Establish a context for Technology Discovery Management
