HMP Committee Activities Monthly meetings (conf calls) since November 2010 Established prioritized listing of committee goals, to be updated annually as part of NHMA’s strategic planning process 3 committee members currently participating on FEMA’s External Stakeholder Workgroup for Mitigation Planning

HMP Committee Goals 1.Increase dialogue between FEMA and local mitigation practitioners 2.Focus more attention on integrating hazard mitigation into other local planning activities 3.Provide input to FEMA's ongoing plan review process improvement project through active stakeholder involvement, participating in pilot testing, etc.

HMP Committee Goals 4.Confirm the value of hazard mitigation planning. (Demonstrate through examples and case studies the various benefits of hazard mitigation planning ranging from public outreach that leads to individual homeowner action, to greater collaboration amongst local officials that leads to more stringent building codes/local spending toward preserving open space, and/or successful pursuit and implementation of federally funded mitigation projects.) 5.Identify case studies to help institutionalize mitigation into routine activities 6.Gain consensus on how to improve hazard mitigation planning and publish white paper for NHMA endorsement

HMP Committee Goals 7.Research/identify drivers or motivational tactics for mitigation implementation 8.Provide input to FEMA on implementation of Risk MAP program 9.Provide input to process of updating of CRS planning guidance and schedule 10.Enhance integration of manmade and technological hazards into mainstream hazard mitigation planning for natural hazards 11.Promote improved coordination and integration of federal programs related to risk reduction and homeland security issues 12.Increase quality of information and guidance for communicating hazard risk and mitigation principles to the general public as a whole 13.Recruitment of additional NHMA members, as well as those who can support the HMP committee
