Week 1 What does the Bible claim about itself? (Doctrine) Week 2 How do we know that the Bible’s claims are true? (Apologetics) Week 3 How do I know my English Bible is reliable? (Compilation and Translation)

That the Bible can be shown to be… Prophetically accurate Archeologically accurate Scientifically accurate Bibliographically accurate These concepts are known as the apologetics of the Bible.

If the Bible is inspired, and the original language texts are 99.1% accurate, how do we…. Get our English translation? Understand why there are so many? Choose which Bible we want to buy?

Collection Textual Criticism Original Language Text Translation English Bible

Archeological finds sometimes change the way the scripture is translated Archeological finds sometimes add to our collection of MSS and fragments

The process of compiling the fragments into a single text. What happens when two manuscripts do not agree?

Translation Philosophy English Inadequacies Cultural Differences There are two things that cause differences in translations…

YLT NASB NKJV KVJNIVTNIV The Message Least Literal Translation Most Literal Translation

1. The English Bible comes to us through a three step process: Collection, Textual Criticism, Translation 2. Differences in Bible translations occur for three reasons: 1. Language inadequacies and 2. Criticism methodologies 3. Cultural difference

1. The Bible claims to be the Word of God 2. The claims of the Bible stand up to attack 3. The modern Bible is reliable today Therefore, the balance lies with the Bible is the word of God as it claims to be.

The modern Bible can be accepted to be Word of God to the degree that they adequately reflect the original writing. 99.1% in the original Languages

“The Bible is the Word of God in such a way that whatever it says, God says.” -Dr. B. B. Warfield
