OLYMPIC MOTTO CITIUS-ALTIUS-FORTIUS FASTER-HIGHER- STRONGER OLYMPIC CREED “The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.”

Olympic History The Olympic didn’t happen during WW ll (1939 – 1945). The first Olympic Games after the war were held in Winter Olympic sports are played on ice or snow.

Olympics in Canada Summer Olympic played in Montreal in 1976 The winter Olympic played in Calgary in 1988

The three Olympic mascots are Quatchi, Miga AND Sumi. Mukmuk is our electronic mascot. My favorite mascot is Miga. Miga likes snowboarding because it is so much like surfing, her favourite sport. She grew up in Tofino on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Miga is a sea bear. She is half orca whale and half kimoti bear. Miga loves hot cocoa. she likes fern green to miga also likesHer favourite colour is fern green. She loves eating blueberries. I’m most like Miga because we both like blueberries and hot cocoa. I live on Vancouver Island just like Miga. We also like going on adventures and snowboarding. I like learning new tricks. Once I did one on my skateboard! I almost fell but I didn’t because I was wearing a helmet. Lucky for me! Miga is a sea bear and orca whale. I love orca whales! I heard Miga is the youngest in her family. I’m not the youngest anymore because we have a new baby in our family. I liked being the youngest ! My favorite colour is fern green too.

Mukmuk is our electronic mascot who can only be seen in cyberspace. Mukmuk is a marmot. His home is on Vancouver Island where marmots are an endangered species. Mukmuk cheers on his friends when they are participating in Olympic Sports. Mukmuk loves to eat. He actually got his name from the Squamish First Nation’s word, “muckamuck” which means “food”. Mukmuk likes hot cocoa. His dream is to tell the world about his fellow island marmots. His favourite colour is berry orange. Mukmuk is a small friendly marmot.

OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY The Olympic Torch was handed over to Canadian officials on October 29, 2009 in Greece. The torch was transported to Victoria, British Columbia by jet. When it landed on October 30 the official 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. The torch is making a record breaking journey across Canada and back to Vancouver. People are carrying the torch. I’m not sure I want to be one of them. How about you? The torch will light the Olympic caldron during the Opening Ceremonies on February 12, 2010.

2010 Vancouver winter Olympics logo. The logo and Inukshuk mascot of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics is based on the Canadian Inuit Inukshuk. The Inukshuk is a stone marker used by the Inuit in Northern Canada. It helps them find them way traveling over the Arctic tundra. The new Olympic logo mascot is named “Ilanaaq” which means “friend” in The native Inuit Inuktitut language. Rivera MacGregor claims that her winning design represents the culture, environment and people of Canada.
