Volunteering in the VCS Volunteering contributed an estimated £23.9bn to the UK economy, equivalent to 1.5 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (NCVO ) Many VCS organisations have volunteer teams and a substantial amount are entirely volunteer led. A recent study by the Cinnamon Faith Action Audit (Feb 2015) found that each church or faith group in GLOUCESTER was delivering on average, per year: 8 social action projects Support for 1,336 beneficiaries 3 paid staff 51 volunteers 1,077 paid staff hours 7,106 volunteer hours £68,451 worth of support (paid staff hours, plus volunteer hours calculated using the living wage of £7.85 and a small supplement for management time) 120,802 total volunteer hours per year
