October 4-5, Status of ARRA funded AIPs Stochastic Cooling Alex Zaltsman October 4, 2010 Stochastic Cooling cost and schedule

October 4-5, Outline Scope Funding and Costs Major Milestones Management and Reporting Bumps in the Road Safety From here to completion

October 4-5, Scope Engineer, procure and install a horizontal Stochastic Cooler and associated equipment in the RHIC Blue and Yellow rings. –The major procurements include amplifiers, electronics and vacuum vessel assemblies. Each ring contains: –2 vacuum vessels with 8 cavities per vessel –1 pickup

October 4-5, Funding and Costs

October 4-5, Major Milestones Currently ahead of planned schedule The possibility still exists for installation of one pickup before RHIC start-up.

October 4-5, Management and Reporting Internally Weekly and Monthly Budget and Expense reports Monthly labor reports (hours charged by individuals) Open purchase orders/purchase requisitions report (available daily) Reporting to DOE Execution Plan Monthly ARRA milestone progress reports Monthly teleconferences Quarterly reports Quarterly teleconferences

October 4-5, Bumps in the road… Our design requires a large rectangular vacuum seal for the kicker tanks which we were trying to develop with outside vendors but were unsuccessful. This delayed us by 3-4 months, and the final resolution was to weld the tanks.

October 4-5, Safety ARRA AIPs are fully integrated into the C-AD Safety organization and subject to the same standards as RHIC –ESSH&Q Division and Safety Committees –Procedures and safe practices –Trained supervisors and employees –All work has been done safely. No safety occurrences on the project.

October 4-5, Safety Completed Safety milestones (on Indico) –NEPA review –Design Review questionnaire –Preliminary Hazard Screening Report Planned Safety milestones/reviews: –Accelerator Systems Safety Review Committee (ASSRC) –Radiation Safety Committee (RSC)

October 4-5, from here to completion… Current and ongoing –Finish assembly –Testing –Installation Planning Installation –No major risks are foreseen for the installation during the summer shutdown 2011.
