0 Soil Management Screening of all soil to be re-used or disposed of Re-use or disposal of excess soil Utility Corridor and Roadway Relocation Project Project Start January 2013 Anticipated Completion June 2015

1 Re-use of Excess Soil Excess soil estimate = 195,000 tons Current cost to re-use = $0 Current cost to dispose offsite = $100 per ton Cost avoidance potential = $19.5 million Additional Benefits of Re-use Re-use of landfill materials at the source Site elevation increases to address storm surge concerns Avoidance of 6,800 truck trips needed to dispose 195,000 tons of excess soil will reduce vehicle emissions and on-campus traffic related to "to and from" truck trips Utility Corridor and Roadway Relocation Project

2 On-Campus Options for Re-use of Excess Soil Parking Lots o North Parking Lot o Lot D o South Parking Lot Roadway Areas o Bianculli Boulevard adjacent to Boston College High School Landscaped Areas/Landforms o Commencement Lawn o Soccer Field and Track o Behind Calf Pasture Pumping Station o Between Calf Pasture Pumping Station and Lot A (Quonset Huts) Site elevations to be determined by: Adjacent existing or proposed (e.g. Campus Quadrangle) elevations Storm surge concerns Views Utility Corridor and Roadway Relocation Project

3 Screening Visual screening to identify type of soil based on composition so that it can be temporarily stored and managed appropriately Physical screening of soil that is filled with debris – glass, brick, metal, boulders – these materials represent risks of future settlement On-Campus Location Options for Physical Screening and/or Temporary Storage South Lot Lot A Lot B Lot C Lot D Utility Corridor and Roadway Relocation Project
