Essay of Place Peer Editing  Revising in Peer Groups  Rules: It must be quiet as you edit; write comments on the writer’s paper; you need to be thorough and critical-this should not be something you fly through  HW: Revise your essay based on your peer comments from today.  Final Draft with 3 Different Pre- Writes and Rough Draft with peer edits due Wed.

Peer Editing: The Senses  Which senses are emphasized in this essay? Highlight and comment on the sensory images you find powerful. Is there anything that could be shown with further detail?  Does the writer tap into at least three- four of the senses? If the picture still seems 2- D instead of 3-D, offer suggestions as to where the author could indulge a little more in a specific sense.  What stylistic devices work well? Can you notice them in the narrative?

Peer Editing: Showing Emotion  Highlight places where the author shows emotion instead of telling. Comment on what makes these passages strong.  Highlight places where the author is telling emotion instead of showing. Offer suggestions on how to empower these passages.  Are there any places that seems to lack life? That lose your interest? Highlight and comment on these passages and offer suggestions.

Peer Editing: Structure  Does the balance between physical description and personal narrative (emotions, memories, etc.) work well? If there are places where the writing weighs too heavily on one or the other, offer commentary and suggestions.  Is there an organizing element of the piece, or does it feel to random in places? Mark any random places that don’t connect smoothly and offer suggestions.

Peer Editing: Connection  DO you as the reader have a connection with the piece? In what way?  Do you see the writer’s sense of belonging with the place?
