Parthenon By: Kaitlyn McKinley

Where? The Parthenon was built in Athens, Greece. There is also a replica of it in Nashville, Tennessee, and if you look at the house of representatives in Washington D.C. you can see the same Greek architecture is still alive today. It is actually built on top of an older temple sometimes referred to as, The Pre-Parthenon.

Why? The Parthenon was built to replace an older temple (The Pre-Parthenon) that got destroyed due to the Persian invasion on Greece. It was built as a temple for the goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle. It was eventually converted to a Christian church for the Virgin Mary.

When? The construction of the Parthenon began in 447 B.C. and ended in 483 B.C. but the decoration ended in 432 B.C. It was also built after the Persians destroyed the first temple.

Who? The Parthenon was designed by Phidias. Around the exterior of the cella is the frieze. En.Wikipedia.org/wiki/parthenon
