Presentation transcript:

Environment: Large salt water oceans. It’s a…thing: The hagfish has no appendages, no identifiable stomach, not really anything. Slime time: when the Pacific Hagfish is threatened it releases a protein from its skin that mixes with the water making it a big slimy mass. Feeling unloved: the Hagfish lays its eggs and leaves them to fend for themselves. Common name: Pacific Hagfish Scientific name: Eptatretus stoutii

Environment: Large bodies of salt water. Ex: oceans. Now you see me…: Great Whites are counter shaded. Being grey on the top and white on the bottom makes it very hard for its prey to spot it from a lateral perspective. Big boys got to eat: In one bite the Great White Shark can eat up to 31 lbs. They consume several hundred pounds of food a day. I Spy: Great White Sharks are one of only a few that stick their head above water to spy on prey. Common name: Great White Shark Scientific name: Carcharodon carcharias

Environment: In the costal area of tropical seas. Cute but Deadly: the puffer fish is the second most poisonous vertebrate in the world!! Their internal organs contain a neurotoxin that is deadly to humans, but not all animals. Fear the bubble: Puffer fish are very slow so when threatened they inflate very rapidly to massive sizes to scare off its enemies. Jaws of Life: The four teeth it has are used to crack the hard shells of its main food source: crustaceans, mollusks, and red worms. Common name: Puffer Fish “Puffy” Scientific name: Arothron hispidus

Environment: Forest edges, bushy heaths, and wet dune pans. Jobs: were used as barometers because they respond to approaching rain by croaking. Weakness: average length: mm Weather readiness: skin color changes based on humidity and temperature Common name: European Tree Frog Scientific name: Hyla arborea

Common name: Snapping Turtle Scientific name: Chelydra serpentina Environment: North America, Asia, and Europe Personality: prankster; loves to block traffic by moving slowly and disappears when someone, especially crocodiles, try to “chew him out.” Favorite Food: Broccoli with no salt; doesn’t like salt on his food and only like fresh water. Picky: will only lay eggs in soft sand no matter how far from water the spot is.

Common name: Bald Eagle Scientific name: Haliaeetus leucocephalus Environment: Canada, for breeding, and most of the USA. Ideal Date: Any Eagle that is Canadian Dream Home : 19 th century( or older) tree. Favorite Activity: Dive Fishing; diving out of the sky and snatching a fish from the water.

Environment: Large, wide open spaces Favorite past time : Staring into space as they take turns looking for predators. Stereotypes: They do not hibernate. Life style: Very army-like. One scout is always on watch and sounds an alarm when danger is near. Common name: Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Scientific name: Cynomys ludovicianus
