Culture leaders for teacher Growing a

Cultivating teacher leaders changed how we do professional learning

The Challenge How do we ensure that students are showing growth and demonstrating mastery of 21 st Century Skills and Content? We are supposed to get all kids to the top?

Make it possible to maximize the work of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)

We created a schedule in which all teachers have time to plan together Teachers Who Teach the Same Grade & Subject Teachers Who Teach the Same Students

PLC Culture IS Focused on Student Growth Data and Professional Practice IS NOT … “just another meeting”

Think about YOUR Learning Community… Do you already have time set aside for PLC collaboration? If not … how could you create that?

Utilized “experts” in our own back yard Teacher-led professional development IS Teacher-led professional development IS NOT

Think about YOUR Learning Community… How can you encourage teachers to share their knowledge and skills with each other? Do you have ways to shift staff meeting content to make that time professional learning for all?

Growing Our Own Teacher Leaders Identify strengths and then nurture and encourage our teachers to share their strengths

Think about YOUR Learning Community… What programs in your district already exist and how can you encourage your fellow staff to participate in them? What other opportunities exist outside of your district for your staff?

Using Teacher-leadership to nurture effective teaching practices is a key part of growing a Culture that impacts student learning
