Fourth Grade Morgan Elementary

Overview Welcome to the fourth grade! You and your child are going to experience a year full of academic challenges and fun-filled activities. Being a fourth grade student is pretty special, and at the same time, places many responsibilities upon the student!

Schedule 7:25-8:05 Morning Work 8:05-9:05 Reading 9:05-10:05 Math 10:10-10:55 Specials 10:55-11:15 Enrichment 11:15-11:43 Lunch 11:55-12:25 Recess 12:25-1:30 Science/Social Studies 1:30-2:10 Writing 2:10-2:20 Enrichment 2:25 Dismissal

New National Common Core State Standards and Essential Standards Starting with the school year, the new Common Core State Standards and the North Carolina Essential standards will be taught and assessed. For more information visit :

How Will My Child Be Assessed? Students will be assessed both formally and informally throughout the year. There will be quarter tests at the end of the 1 st and 3 rd quarters and an end of grade test at the end of the year. Students will be tested at the end of the year in reading, math, and science. There are no retakes this year. Students only have one chance to pass.

Math The math curriculum this year will consist of the following: place value, addition and subtraction, measurement, multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, and geometry Problem Solving will be taught throughout the year

Science The science curriculum will include the following units: Ecosystems, Foods and Nutrition, Earth’s History and Earth in the Universe, Matter and Properties, Rocks and Minerals, Forces and Motion, and Energy Conservation

Reading The reading curriculum will include: exploring different genres and novels studies, main idea and details, text elements, sequencing, cause and effect, inference, compare and contrast, and fact and opinion.

Writing The students will also learn to write narrative, poetry, and content pieces.

Social Studies North Carolina Exploration and Colonization, Migration and Settlement Patterns, Constitution and Government, Growth, Development, Symbolism, and Personal Financial Literacy

Homework Students will have homework Monday – Thursday No regular homework over the weekend Tuesday folders go home every Tuesday Planners should be checked/signed nightly

What Can You DO? Look for frequent s from your child’s teacher. Check planners nightly. Go over Tuesday folder papers with your child. Help your child be organized. Give guidance and support to daily assignments when needed. Help your child to be on time. Make all necessary appointments in the afternoon. Make sure your child gets plenty of rest at night and eats a good breakfast.
