Teaching Tips Anna Stevens

Background Everyday my cooperating teacher and I began our class with an agenda on the power point along with an image or quote and a question for students to use in a turn and talk. This allowed space on the board to be used for writing down our learning targets, which we would refer to throughout class It accessible at any school with a document camera, even when the funds are low

Not only would we use the board to begin class but we would also use it for each one of our lessons The power point was able to make modified direct instruction more exciting It allowed for group roles and expectations to be displayed during cooperative learning group work It also provided quick links to images, website, and videos that supplement lessons

Example Most important water feature of Ancient Egypt: THE NILE RIVER- flows up North and creates a long valley where lots of plant life grows, also made a barrier between Egyptian peoples and people on the other side of the river Nile movie

Power Point and Diverse Learners Power Point presentations not only present information in an accessible way to general ed students but is also extremely helpful for the exceptional students in your classroom Student with LD When information can be presented with a slideshow it gives LD students time to take notes and participate at their individual pace English Language Learners When information is presented both orally and visually, it allows for ELL students to make sight/sound correlations that support language acquisition

How can you apply power point to your classroom? Use it for daily announcements Use it to show pictures of your friends and family at the beginning of the year Use it to organize different online links so you can quickly access them during a lesson Use it to show maps and charts that connect to content Scan and upload student work to display to the class Use it for anything and everything! Making connections between oral and visual instruction can’t go wrong
