What is the DBQ? The DBQ is an essay prompt that is to be answered by reading and analyzing a set of documents. The DBQ is an essay prompt that is to be answered by reading and analyzing a set of documents. The DBQ tests your ability to use historiography skills (looking at historical evidence like an historian – not an average person). How does an historian look at historical evidence? Looks at WHO wrote something and tries to determine the reliability of the facts and determine any bias.
