Presentation transcript:

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS Advanced Compound Objects James Martin High School Computer Multimedia and Animation Instructor: G. Patton

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 1. Which rollout is used to loft multiple shapes? The Path Parameters rollout is used in conjunction with the Creation Method rollout to loft multiple shapes.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 2. What does current level mean? The current level is where any shape “put” on the path of a loft object is placed.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 3. What are the three ways the value in the Path: spinner can be displayed? The value in the spinner can be expressed as a percentage of the path length, an absolute distance from the first vertex, or as path steps.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 4. How is the current path level indicated in viewports? The current path level is indicated in viewports by a small yellow X.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 5. What is the purpose of the value in the Snap: spinner for loft objects? The value in the Snap: spinner is used to set snap increments for adjusting the current level on the path in the Path: spinner.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 6. Which radio button(s) allow a virtually unlimited number of shapes on the path of a loft object? Percentage and Distance

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 7. What is the purpose of the Pick Shape button at the bottom of the Path Parameters rollout? It allows you to set the current level of the path to that of the shape you pick.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 8. How can you add loft shapes to an existing loft object? After creating the loft object, keep the loft object selected. In the Path Parameters rollout, use the Path: spinner to move to the level where you want to add the next shape. Finally, pick the Get Shape button in the Creation Method rollout and pick the shape(s) you want to add. If the loft object is already created and is unselected, you must use the Modify tab in the Command Panel.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 9. What do deformation tools allow you to do? The deformation tools allow you to fine- tune a loft object by applying a deformation.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 10. How can you apply a deformation when creating a loft object? A deformation cannot be applied while creating a loft object. The deformation tools must be accessed through the Modify tab of the Command Panel after the loft object is created.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 11. Which deformation tools use a dialog box with a common layout? Scale Twist Teeter Bevel.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 12. What does the layout of the Deformation dialog box look like? The interface of the dialog box resembles a graph of the deformation. A ruler along the top of the graph indicates the current percent position on the loft path. A scale along the left side of the graph indicates the percentage of the deformation being applied. The deformation grid in the middle of the dialog box is used to insert, move, or scale control points on the deformation curve.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 13. What is the purpose of the Make Symmetrical button in the Deformation dialog box? It allows you to apply the same changes to the deformation to both the X and Y axes.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 14. In what color are the X and Y axes displayed in the Deformation dialog box? By default, the X axis appears as a red line. The Y axis appears as a green line.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 15. What does the Reset Curve button do in all of the Deformation dialog boxes except the Fit Deformation dialog box? It removes all added control points and reverts the curve to the default setting.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 16. What are the three types of control points that can be used on a deformation curve? Corner Bézier-smooth Bézier-corner

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 17. What does the fit deformation do? It forces a loft object to fit inside profile shapes you define.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 18. How do you remove a twist from a loft object created from a square and a circle shape? At the sub-object level, align the vertices of the shapes on the loft object using the Compare dialog box and the Select and Rotate button.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 19. What are the two conditions that must be met for morphing two objects? The objects must both be either mesh objects or patch objects, and they must have the same number of vertices.

From: CHAPTER 9– Advance Compound Objects 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS 20. With what type of object is the mesher compound object designed to be used? a particle system
