The Road Not Taken Robert Frost

The Road Not Taken TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; 5 Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, 10

And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. 15 I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. 3

The Road Not Taken Lyric poetry - the most common type - includes all other verse forms (sonnet, ode, ballad, etc.) Lyrics were originally sung to the accompaniment of a lyre, from which the term was derived. E.g. David Wilcox- Two Roads Diverge Based on Robert Frost Poem

Title of Poem Two roads diverged is about the choices you make in life. The regret you might feel when you’re making a big decision. However, after taking a road less traveled (the least popular choice). You will find the meaning of life and after making the decision be able to hold your head up high.

How is IMAGERY used? The entire poem is a mental walk through a yellow wood. You can see the leaves, feel the path beneath your feet, and understand what its like to not look back once you’ve stepped on the road less traveled by.

The Road Not Taken Explain the relationship of the poem to its title: In life we constantly look back and wonder what if? What if I had chosen differently... how would my life be right now? It is in these wonderings that we realize how much we either regret our decision or are we satisfied with the one we made. This poem describes the choices we made and the roads/paths in life we didn’t take. The fact that we choose the path less traveled (i.e. not the easy path) means we

Title of Poem Explain the meaning of the poem. What message is the poet sending us? Personally, I believe Robert Frost in contemplating his own life wants us to look back on ours. He sees people just living out their lives and taking the easy way. Life is about struggle and making hard choices. It is through these tough choices that we inevitably find ourselves and the meaning of life. The Road Not Taken is in fact a life well lived.

About the Poet Robert Frost- American Poet ( ) He is most well known for his depiction of rural life in New England. Frost is a very well known poet who throughout his life received 4 Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry.

Landscape By: Maria Annunziata

Landscape Cascading waterfall O rushing sound The beating of my heart The feel of the ground The Music of the wind The call of the lark Oh what can I do Engulfed in the dark

I can imagine this landscape The scene in my mind It is how I believe heaven is I sit here waiting for a sign Something that says I’m not alone As the sun rises The warmth I feel lets me know that I’m finally home 12
