 Introduction  How pollution affects the environment  Ways to reduce pollution  Summary

Pollution is the presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing that has harmful or poisonous effects

 When it comes to health hazards, the effects of air pollution include a wide range of diseases, right from viral infection to life- threatening conditions such as heart attacks. Air pollution also has adverse effects on the environment in which we live. It has the tendency to cause severe environmental issues such as global warming and acid rain.

 Conserve energy - turn off appliances and lights when you leave the room.  Recycle paper, plastic, glass bottles, cardboard, and aluminum cans.  Keep woodstoves and fireplaces well maintained.  Plant deciduous trees in locations around your home to provide shade in the summer, but to allow light in the winter.  Buy green electricity-produced by low-or even zero-pollution facilities.  Connect your outdoor lights to a timer or use solar lighting.
