photography

I wanted to keep my zoetrope simple, I had the idea to use minimal movement so I chose to photograph a camera I had just recently bought focusing. I am extremely interested in collecting vintage cameras so I knew I would enjoy doing this. I am worried that the images may not look like the are moving as the movements are very slight. If this is the case I will swap the GIF and my Zoetrope images around as it will be easier to view on a computer screen rather than moving round fast. ZOETROPE

The GIF I am creating has the same theme as the Zoetrope I am creating. I did not make the object in the photos move, instead I zoomed in on the object. I enjoyed doing this as I knew that the GIF should come out smooth as the camera in the frame did not move and neither did the camera I was photographing with. Although many people may not be interested in my GIF it is something that is interesting to me. At the moment I am struggling to create my gif as photoshop will not work with the images I am trying to use. I may try do the shoot again using a smaller file size using JPEG format instead of RAW this will make things easier as the file sizes will be a lot smaller and the computer will not freeze as much as if I was using large files. GIF

I have not taken images for my flip book as of yet, I know that I am going to use photography instead of numerous drawings, if I were to draw each frame it could take days rather than just hours. If I were to draw a small frame it may take a few minutes compared to if I were to take a photo which could be as fast as half a second. FLIPBOOK

Although I do not have a time-lapse yet I have had the idea to take photos while someone applies makeup as it is a strong theme in my book cover. I do not have a model as yet. TIME-LAPSE IDEAS

Originally I had the idea to use a mixture of media such as illustration and photography. I had drawn up a rough copy of what I wanted to use in the cover but it didn’t look how I imagined it to, I imagined it looked a bit better than it had turned out. I know I could have edited the image to look better in Photoshop but I wanted minimal editing as I knew it would take a while to put the cover it’s self together. My other idea was to create a more adult themed photograph and edit into a children’s book cover. Most people who have grown up with this fairytale and most people who have heard or told the tale will be more mature as original fairytales are now being replaced with films such as Disney. BOOK COVER IDEAS

BOOK COVER

There was not much I could research as there are no specific authors to search, most book covers are all different takes on the same story drawn by an illustrator. There are no photographs that I could find that relate to Little Red Riding Hood. I have found it very common for the character on the front of the book to be wearing bright red lipstick, I have taken note of this. RESEARCH

In the end I combined a children’s themed book with a teenage audience. I do not think this was as successful as I imagined, I think it should be one or the other. The cover reminds me of the DVD cover for The Devil Wears Prada, this was unintentional but I do like the similarity. I think the stars are a bit immature but after researching Little Red Riding Hood book covers I found that it is a recurring theme- these books were all illustrations hence why I ‘posterised’ the background image in photoshop to make it look similar to a drawing, it looked better when the image was very flat but none of the text was readable so I had to compromise.
