Presentation transcript:

Anyone.

Luke 9:21-24 He sternly ordered and commanded them not to tell anyone, saying, “The Son of Man must undergo great And be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.”

Luke 9:21-24 Then he said to them all, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it.”

If Any If AnyoneThose Who If Any ManWhoever “This is a call to all the dead and disappointed, the ones who feel like they are done; this is a word to all the ones who feel forgotten, but you are not.”

An Invitation Jesus is inviting anyone. Anyone is an all-inclusive word. Anyone means Everyone.

Biblical Anyones Mark’s Synoptic Gospel – “He calls out to the crowd and his disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple.’” A daughter of a powerful synagogue leader is healed, while a weak woman who is hemorrhaging is healed. Matthew, a tax collector, is invited by Jesus to follow him.

Anyone Today Human Nature Many assume they aren’t qualified or that they haven’t measured up. Romans reminds us, “that all of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”

Anyone Today God’s Grace In response, with open arms, Jesus offers a gracious invitation. All have sinned, all are invited. “That takes care of all of us! ~ Doc Hodges

Anyone. “When Jesus says anyone, it turns out what he really means is anyone.” The invitation of Jesus to follow him begins, “If anyone...” It turns out Anyone means Anyone. Anyone means me. Anyone means you.
