The present perfect is used
1. When we are talking about an action that has just been completed; John said,“I have just tidied my bedroom.”
2. When we are talking about an action which started in the past and is still true now; I have played basketball since I was a child.
3. When we are talking about an action in the past but we don’t give the exact time. We are more concerned about the result. Peter has worked hard and got a good result in his test.
