1 Ideas Board “Inspiration From Those Who Have Inspired” Frank Lloyd Wright David Carson Frank Gehry Leonardo Da Vinci Concept Statement: The goal for the new Art Center is simple- Inspiration. We want to bring the masterminds of art into the classrooms and galleries. So, if a student is simply just there to grab lunch, take a class, or merely just to visit the galleries they can be inspired by the past and by motivated for the future. 3 Program Analysis Building Planning Issues: Defining spaces with walls will be difficult due to the windows floor to ceiling windows that surround the wing. Keeping a consistent flow between the floors with the various departments. Space Descriptions and Equipment Needs The Lobby Entrances shall be open and inviting. Possible seating for those who are waiting, a reception desk, computer and telephone will be required equipment. The Gallery spaces will be an inspirational retreat. Lighting will be a crucial element as well as the orientation of the pieces on display. Projection screens and flat screen television screens and computers will be needed for variable presentation methods. The Student run Café should be vibrant and fun, providing a break from long hours of class. Refrigerators, freezers, coolers, storage cases and a cash register are obvious equipment needs. 5 Building Codes- Egress Exit- includes exterior exits, passageways, exterior exit stairs, ramps and horizontal exits. Exit Access- a means of egress path from inside a building to the exit. In Areas with seating- 19’’ is added Aisles- should have a minimum of width of 12’’. Plus ½’’ per foot if the aisle’s length exceeds 12’. Aisle is public areas- Minimum of width of 44’’ 36’’ where if furnisher is only on one side of the room Does not apply to a table of 4 or less where access is only 6’ Aisles in Nonpublic areas- minimum of 36’’ Having fewer the 50 people- 28’’ Length of travel- is limited to 30’ before a person needs to have an option of 2 or more paths of egress. Aisles unobstructed- except for doors, handrails, and trim Doors may not reduce the space by more than 7’’ when open. 7 Accessibility Codes- Restaurant Clearance: Restaurants- places open to the public where food or beverages are served Seating- At least 5% of the tables should be accessible Accessible tables should be organized by size and location 36’’ access aisle should be located between all accessible tables Clearance: Knee Clearance- Wheelchairs space should be at least 27’’ high, 30’’ wide, and 19’’ deep. Counters- 60’’ portion should be accessible Aisle for food selection- should have a min of 36’’, however 42’’ is preferred. 8 Accessibility Codes- Education and Places of Assembly Educational Facilities- include colleges and universities, administrative and instructional spaces and spaces open to students and the public. Places of Assembly- include theaters, auditoriums, and lecture halls. Number Of Accessible Seats 4-25 1 26-50 2 51-300 4 301-500 6 Over 500 6 (+ 1 for every 100) When there is more then 150 seats, wheelchair seating should be located in more then one place Companion Seats should be provider next to each wheelchair space Access to the Stage should include: - A Ramp - Wheelchair lift.
