Unit 23: multi camera techniques

Sporting event with embedded cameras

Sporting events As you have seen on a previous slide there are a number of cameras located around the stadium capturing all the footage and providing coverage of action. The cameras are usually located all around the pitch one each side of the goal 4 in each half, one up in the gods, a camera on a zip wire. Then a camera used for filming each dugout. These cameras are used to film all the action cutting to different shots to allow the viewer to get an idea of what is going on. For example after a goal is scored they will film the goal, players celebrating, the managers and the others teams reaction, to show the audience a goal has been scored.

What the shots look like

Here is an example of this camera this covers action do the wings there are two on each side of the pitch often used for filming celebrations, the camera man is able to walk up and down the side of the pitch. Capturing the action and the vital point

Here Is a camera shot that is usually placed In the stand wich allows the camera man to capture a long shot of the game there would also be these placed on the other side to do the same thing judging on what side the ball is.

Here is an example of what I mentioned before but it Is placed on the other filming each side of the ball It also follows the ball when the ball is kicked.

This camera is used to view the ball going into the goal witch is an interesting camera shot and is also used a lot on corners to view the whole box

This camera is located in the corner by the corner flag to allow a strong exciting shot when the ball is run down to the bye line right in the corner also used when throw ins and corners are being taken.

This camera along with many others is located in the crowd, these cameras zoom in to allow close ups of big groups of people.

Studio with embedded cameras

This camera shot is a long shot used to film both the guest and Jonathan ross at the same time. This allows the audience to see both there reactions at the same time.

As mentioned before Here is the camera used to filmed The interviewer face as a mid shot/ Close up. The 180 degree rule is used switching between faces depending on when they speak.

There is always a camera used to film the person being interviewed close up. As you can see the interviewee Is being filmed close up, there will also be a camera used To film both of them and the Interviewer.

This camera is used to film the guests waiting in the green room waiting to come on they often cut to this room to view the reaction of something being said by the person being interviewed

Studio clips

Sporting clips

Coverage of action Coverage of action is when production company's use multi cameras to cover all types of action. For example in football numbers of cameras are used to cover all the action allowing an entertaining watch for the viewers For example when a goal is scored they film the goal and the celebration and cut in clips of the crowd celebrating and usually the managers reaction

Communicating meaning to the viewer In a horror film, when cameras are tracking a character it builds up tension and suspense and gives the audience an impression that something is going to happen To show emphasis on what exactly has gone on.

Maintaining viewer interests Viewers are key in television so its important that company's keep the channel interesting. By not repeating camera shots and giving the viewers information for example when the masters golf is on the score board comes up. This allows people that join the programme late a idea of who's winning and what hole they are on.

Visual style Visual style is what it looks like in this case it is a football match so it is going to evolve many camera shots with commentary over telling you what exactly is going on. There are a lot vibrant colour, the grass and the coloured kits are the main ones. For example a footvball match will always be filmed in a certain way focusing on the ball, where as festivals focus on the crowd and other things due to the sound being the predominant. Also showels like have I got news for you always look the same (panel shows).

Constraints of studio location This is things that are going to occur and prevent your production from running smoothly for example wind, noise of traffic, people speaking excreta Also restrictions apply for example there may be a restriction on the amount of noise the cast can make.

Multi camera simultaneous recording Is what I have looked at in the football match, multi cameras are used to make the production interesting and insures that the viewers are entertained. The reason one camera is not used is so that the viewers stay entertained nothing is missed and different camera angels are shown
