I.I.S.S.”Fermi - Nervi - Cassandro” Barletta, Italy BARLETTA FOLK TRADITIONS By Francesco Gimignano & Gianluca Pacini

 The challenge of Barletta was a clash of knights held on 15 th February, 1503, in the territories of Trani, between thirteen Italian Knights and thirteen French Knights. The challenge ended with the victory of the Italian Group.  Every year in Barletta they remember the Challenge with parades and shows. Some famous actors interpret some characters of the challenge. On the evening in the castle there are delicious musical fireworks.

 On the 2 ° Sunday of July, Barletta celebrates “Patron Saints’ day”. They are “Our Lady of Brushwood” and “Saint Roger” Patrons.  Celebrations last for 3 days. The streets of the city centre are adorned with beautiful lights and near the Cathedral and the Castle there are lots of stalls full of all kinds of goods: clothes, shoes, toys, sweets, tableware.  Children and adults go to the fun fair along the seafront and they have a great time, well into the night.  On Sunday evening the statues of the Patron Saints are carried in procession between the crowd and as they go past many colored balloons, they sing religious songs. At midnight wonderful fireworks light the sky and color the sea.
