GROUP ACTIVITY Directions: Write your name on four pieces of paper. Draw a rectangle around your name on one piece of paper. Draw a circle around your name on one piece of paper. Draw a cloud around your name on one piece of paper. Draw a triangle around your name on one piece of paper. Activity: Walk around the class and trade papers with 4 different classmates. You can trade a cloud for a circle. In addition, you can trade someone else’s name. When you are finished take a seat.

Activity: How HIV is transferred Instructions: A rectangle represents holding hands (can not get HIV) A circle represents kissing (can not get HIV) A cloud represents sharing needles (transfers HIV) A triangle represents unprotected sex (transfers HIV) Activity: One student will stand up and call out only the names of their clouds and triangles. If your name is called, stand up and you will call out your clouds and triangles. The activity represents how HIV is transferred from one person to the next.

HIV TESTING The HIV test is a blood test that looks for HIV antibodies. It can take up to 3 months after being infected for the body to make enough antibodies to get a positive diagnosis.

SYMPTOMS OF HIV Symptoms show up several months to several years after contact with HIV While some people have few symptoms, others have serious symptoms. Symptoms could include: unexplained weight loss, tiredness, flu-like feeling, diarrhea, white spots in mouth Over time, HIV turns into AIDS and will damage the body’s immune symptom
