Surviving In The Alaskan Tundra Ecosystem By Declan Kabalka

Why is it so hard to survive in the Alaskan tundra? theres not a lot of plant diversity. there are only 2 seasons: winter, and summer. theres a layer of permafrost underground, meaning trees can’t grow. the lack of sun means there are less plants.

Ways of Survival Animals use mimicry, hibernation, migration, adaptation, and camouflage to survive.

Adaptations All animals adapt to their environment in there own unique way! For example, grass grows short so animals can only graze, not eat it completely. Also the arctic fox (shown on righthand bottom corner ) and arctic hare turn white in the winter for camouflage!

Man Made And Natural Disasters Tsunami!!This natural disaster can wipe out salmon leaving seagulls starving!! Oil spill !! This man made disaster kills salmon and seagulls too!!!

Food Chains/Webs From grass to arctic hare, from arctic hare to arctic fox, from arctic fox to arctic wolf. Energy is being transferred from animal to animal every day!! A food web is a clump of interconnecting food chains.for example:

What Does It Mean? camouflage-to blend in with your background for protection. adaptation-how an organism adjusts to its environment. hibernate-when an animal sleeps through the winter. mimicry- when one animal mimics another. migration- when an animal moves to another place for warmer weather. metamorphosis-when one animal changes in life. complete metamorphosis-when one animal completely changes. incomplete metamorphosis- when an animal only goes through three stages.
