The Bluest Eye

Summary The story is about Pecola Breedlove. The story takes place in Lorain, Ohio during the 1940's. Pecola family isn't a typical family. Her father is an alcoholic and her brother always runs away from home. They live in poverty. Pecola is ugly and longs for blue eyes like Shirley Temple. She is always made fun of by other people. She eventually gets raped by her father and she gets pregnant. Everyone shuns her and hopes her baby dies.

Elements of Plot Climax- Pecola gets raped and she asks for blue eyes from Soaphead. Rising Action- Pecola is made fun of in school. Frieda and Claudia stick up for her. Falling Action- Pecola becomes pregnant and is shuned from society. Introduction- Claudia, Frieda, and Pecola are introduced. The story takes place in Lorain, Ohio. Conclusion- the baby dies and Pecola starts to become a loner.

Point of View & Genre Point of View The point of view of this story is first person. The author wrote this story to entertain. The narrator of the story is Claudia. Genre The genre is realistic fiction

Author's Style The author's style is very descriptive, with well structured sentences.
