The Circulatory System

What is blood? Blood is a red liquid that goes around your body. It carries oxygen and nutrients to all your body parts. It takes away waste.

Blood is made of three different types of cells carried in a liquid called plasma. Blood cells Red cells, white cells and platelets are blood cells.

Red cells Red blood cells carry oxygen. Red cells are the most numerous.

White cells White blood cells protect you from germs and illness.

Platelets Platelets help blood to clot.

Giving blood People give blood to help other people who need it. There are four blood groups: A, B, AB, O.

The heart

The heart is... An organ. It pumps blood around our body. It is in the middle of the chest. It is the size of a fist.
