U N I T Q U E S T I O N How does the 18 th Century contribute a great change in the modern society?

C O N T E N T Q U E S T I O N What are some facts to know during the 18 th Century that will help us understand the stories The Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, and The Rape of The Lock by Alexander Pope. How did the 18 th Century influence the development of English Language?

U n i t S u m m a r y: Students discuss on the facts about the18th Century, including its history and famous literary works such as The Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, and The Rape of The Lock by Alexander Pope. Students work on unveiling each story’s background in the articles provided and know the authors view in each story. They will become writers to compose an essay discussing the issue in each story. After understanding the stories, they relate the issues of the story in the real life situation and work as a group, creating a new story that has the same themes and issues tackled on the three stories through a very stimulating power point presentation with the main themes entwined in the stories discussed. For the discussion of each group’s reflection, each group assigns an individual discussing the issues they’ve got in the stories relating to their project and to real life situation.

The students are aimed to produce a power point project presentation out of their learning throughout the three stories on the 18 th Century. To start with, the students are obliged to gather factual information and sources to make their project presentation attention- grabbing and edifying. Furthermore, as part of the project presentation, originality should be taken into account and gathered sources must be attached at the end of the project. In addition, the project presentation must consist reading comprehension and interactive quiz to measure the learning acquisition of the students and as they go along with the discussions, students will create a new story from the issues found in the three to be presented at the given date by the teacher. To attain good outcome and ratings, students must follow and check on the given rubric.

W e e k 1 Day1 Unit plan introduction. Introduce the “18 th Century” with a video clip. Ask the Students about their views on video presented. Day2 Ask about their prior knowledge on ‘what makes a good write up’. Provide the lists of famous authors and their write ups during the 18 th Century. Emphasize the following authors, Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, Jonathan Swift, and Alexander Pope in brief background. Day 3 Elaboration of the discussion on the authors Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, Jonathan Swift, and Alexander Pope with more reliable articles provided. Emphasize the following write ups The Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, and The Rape of The Lock by Alexander Pope by presenting a brief summarization of the stories.

Day 4 Give the author’s view on the write ups The Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, and The Rape of The Lock by Alexander Pope. Sharing insights about the authors write ups, (the author’s view). Show the significance of the author and his own impact in the18th Century. Day 5 Present the first story The Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin in a more comprehensive article. Discuss about the issue and theme found in the story.

W e e k 2 Day 1 Provide the essay rubric as an early guide for the students in writing their essay. Recall and reflect the issue and theme found in the story through essay writing. Day 2 Present the second story A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, in a more comprehensive article. Discuss about the issue and theme found in the story. Reflect on the issue and theme found in the story through essay writing. Day3 Present the third story The Rape of The Lock by Alexander Pope, in a more comprehensive article. Discuss about the issue and theme found in the story. Reflect on the issue and theme found in the story through essay writing.

Day 4 Discuss the issues and themes found in the stories through questioning. Internalize the emphasized authors with their specified write up The Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, and The Rape of The Lock by Alexander Pope through hot seat. Day 5 Give the brief summarization of the stories through graphic organizer. Specify the issues and themes found in the stories for future use (project).

W e e k 3 Day 1 Test the students understanding of the write ups The Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, and The Rape of The Lock by Alexander Pope and the authors through interactive quiz. Give back the three essays written by the students and practice them to conduct a peer writing feedback. Presentation of the project rubric. Presentation of rubric for Oral Presentation on the representative chosen by the group to report their project and reflection. Remind the students on the essay rubric for the reflection writing to be gathered after reporting the project and with topic that focus on the issues and themes with the three stories discussed.

Day 2 Conduct teacher’s conference to guide the students of the things they will do their project and to help think about initial plans for the project’s betterment. Initiate brainstorming activity to help students cope of better plans for the project. Let the students have pre-plans about the project. Day 3 Begin doing the project. Monitor students while on the progress of doing the project. Day 4 Continuation of making the project. Day 5 Finalization of the project. Reflection writing (essay) in accordance on the essay rubric discussing the issues and themes on the three stories discussed and its relevance in the society.

W e e k 4 Day1 Students will be examining their project through project checklist. Students will also be filling up their self- evaluation form. Day 2 Groups 1 and 2 will be the first to present their project and will choose a representative to report and to share the most appreciated reflection of an individual from the group out from the reflection writing conducted. Day 3 Groups 3 and 4 will be the second to present their project and will choose a representative to report and to share the most appreciated reflection of an individual from the group out from the reflection writing conducted.

Day 4 Groups 3 and 4 will be the third to present their project and will choose a representative to report and to share the most appreciated reflection of an individual from the group out from the reflection writing conducted. Day 5 As a final requirement, students are obliged to pass the reflection paper they’ve written and as well as submit a soft copy of their project (power point presentation) in a CD.
