Job description Surgeons are highly trained in a specific area. When they first meet a patient they have to determine if surgery is needed. They have to plan the best way to perform surgery. They make sure the instruments are sterile. After the surgery, they make sure their patient is taken care of.

S urgeons work in hospitals, and are often referred to by family doctors. S ome operations are high risk like brain surgery, and some aren't like removing tonsils. S ometimes they can spend 8 hours in the operating room mostly standing. T hey can work more than 12 hours a day.
