Warm-Up Divide 1.) 560 ÷ 8 = 2.) 105 ÷ 3 =

Essential question: What are the steps to divide whole numbers? Name date period Long Division Quotient: The result of dividing two numbers. Dividend: The number that is being divided. Divisor: The number that the dividend is being divided by.

Steps Divide. Multiply. Subtract. Bring down the next digit in the dividend. Repeat steps if necessary.

1) 531 ÷ 9 =

2) 497 ÷ 7 =

3) 207 ÷ 9 =

Summary: There are five steps for division of whole numbers. The first step is to divide the divisor into the dividend. Next, multiply the first digit of the quotient with the divisor. Then, subtract. Next, bring down the next digit of the dividend. Lastly, repeat steps if necessary.
