Common Mistakes in Research Papers

No first person: I, me, mine, we, us, ours

No contractions: they’re, we’re, it’s, you’re, etc.

Do not use “alot” Instead use “many” or “often” as context dictates

Avoid could of, should of, would of

Avoid gonna, wanna, coulda

Make sure pronouns agree: each, every, anyone, anybody all take singular pronouns such as he, she, him, her, etc.

Avoid u, r, i cuz, cause, &

Do not use: “I am going to write about…” “My research paper is about…”

ABOVE ALL Make sure you have a thesis statement otherwise your paper will be a report or an essay
