College Planning Calendar October Get involved in 1 or 2 extra curricular activities. PSATs - October 15th Begin building your college file by using Naviance account to find schools that meet your criteria. Things to consider: –Programs/majors –Size –Cost –Location –Campus life –Financial Aid
Naviance: Family Connection Naviance is an online program where each student in the school has a personal account Students should be logging on –Username –Password Parents also have usernames and passwords
What Can You Do on Naviance? See your student’s test scores and college list Complete surveys Develop a resume Complete college search Track deadlines
College Planning Calendar November Continue to search for colleges that offer majors in which you are interested Plan college visits when classes are in session Talk to your student about considerations (financial, geographical)
College Planning Calendar DECEMBER: Review your PSAT scores, access My College QuickStart to: –Search for college –Explore majors and careers –See correct answers and explanations –Take personality test Strive to better your grades; colleges are looking at junior year courses closely Visit on the web to begin studying for SATwww.collegeboard.org
College Planning Calendar January: Continue college search Study for your mid-term exams February: Start planning for an academically challenging senior year. Be sure to sign up for any college prerequisites you might not have (language, math, lab science) Continue to study for SAT/ACT Consider taking spring SAT/ACT, register online (free/reduced lunch students get 2 free sittings in each)
College Planning Calendar March Register for SAT/ACT Complete course selection for senior year Continue college search using Naviance Develop a preliminary list of colleges Start scheduling campus visits when school is in session

Begin to create your resume on Naviance Visit to National College Fair in Hartford (April 11) May: Confirm your academic schedule for the fall Fill out NCAA clearinghouse form online if you plan on playing a Division 1 or 2 sport Take SAT and/or ACT
College Planning Calendar June and Summer Ask teachers for letters of recommendation Continue working on college essay Let your counselor know if you are considering a military academy Take college tours, start narrowing your college list. We recommend applying to 5-10 colleges Get a job, start saving money and begin searching for scholarships online
