TAGLINE : Suggests the film revolves around a psycological theme as they openly challenge the controvesial argument – is a DREAM real? Or do DREAMS actually have real meanings? While the other characters are facing one direction, Leonardo DiCaprio is facing the other. This infers he is the protagonist. Also, the fact that his name is printed bold and contrasting white, reinforces the fact he is the protagonsit. As he is a well known actor, this will inspire people to become interested in the movie prior to its release. THE DARK KNIGHT is an extremely successful and popular production. The fact that the director of THE DARK KNIGHT is also directing INCEPTION gives the audience hope that INCEPTION will be as successful as THE DARK KNIGHT. Also, fans that appreciate THE DARK KNIGHT will be motivated to see INCEPTION, as they will expect to produce the same positive reaction. The title INCEPTION is printed in bold red, which represents fear, violence, mystery and love; which suggests the themes that could possibly be raised during he movie. In addition, the meaning of INCEPTION is ‘the establishment or starting point of an institution or activity’. This again creates suspense as the audience are more interested in what type of establishment or institution they could come across in the movie. The whole city seems to be upside down which introduces the unusual theme of the movie.

TAGLINE suggests the theme of the movie involves mystery and psychological horror. As she is in the centre of the poster, she is seen as the protagonist. She may be wearing a hospital gown used for patients suffering from mental issues. Again, this suggests the nature of the movie revolves around psychological issues. BACKGROUND The background of this poster tells us a lot about the movie. There is a big building in the background which resembles an institution, possibly for mentally ill patients. The air is very foggy, symbolizing the mysterious nature of the movie. The creator of this poster uses a faded turquoise blue to make it look very cold and abandoned. Again reinforcing the horror theme for THE AWAKENING

The title is on the front of the cover, in bold capital letters. The movie certification is printed on the front of the poster so the audience can know straight away whether or not they’d be able to buy it Blog ratings are in bold writing to entice the viewers and make them want to buy the DVD The back of this poster reveals the blurb of the movie. DVD Special Features are put on the back of the DVD poster to entice the audience. Previous movies such as BLADE RUNNER have used the red-eye effect to indicate that certain characters are an artificial life- form in the story. This could mean it was put there for the same reason.
