ENGLISH 10 HONORS DAY 29 Objective: To synthesize information to generate an effective interpretive statement

Cultural Identity Essays  When you get your essay back, look over the rubric and your essay.  Common reasons for missing points include  Lack of focus or central idea  Vague or overly general explanation of your cultural identity  Poor or inconsistent flow and readability  Major grammatical mistakes (i.e. multiple run-on sentences or fragments)

“Everyday Use”  Turn in your answers for the questions over “Everyday Use.”  Fill in the SIFT chart on page 66.

“My Mother Pieced Quilts” and “Everyday Use”  Review your SIFT charts for “My Mother Pieced Quilts” and “Everyday Use” and highlight similarities.  Looking over the information you have on your chart or diagram, generate an interpretive statement you could use in your essay.  _____ in both essays clearly conveys that culture has _____ impact on one’s view of the world.  Culture _____ impacts one’s view of the world, which is best seen by _____ in both texts.  Turn in your SIFT charts, diagrams, and statements.
