MINIMUM, MAXIMUM & RANGE A MATH POWERPOINT

WHAT IS MINIUMUM??????? MINIMUM means the SMALLEST number in a group of numbers. EXAMPLE: The minimum {smallest} number = The minimum {smallest} number = 1004

What is MAXIMUM??????? MAXIMUM is the LARGEST number in a group of numbers. Example: The maximum {largest} number is The maximum {largest} number is 991

What is RANGE????? To find the RANGE, you take the MAXIMUM {largest number} minus the MINIMUM {smallest number}. The answer {difference} is the RANGE. EXAMPLE: =47 So the RANGE is 47

IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whenever you are going to find the MINIMUM, MAXIMUM or RANGE, you must first take the group of number and put them IN ORDER FROM LEAST TO GREATEST! 1. Check to see if they are in order. If so, you may find the MINIMUM, MAXIMUM & RANGE. 2. If you check and they are not in order from smallest to biggest, reorder them first and then find the MINIMUM, MAXIMUM & RANGE. YOU MUST WRITE THEM DOWN IN ORDER EVERY TIME!

EXAMPLE: First put them in order: Then find the MINIMUM=16 Then find the MAXIMUM=69 Then find the RANGE= 69-16=53

HINTS: It is always good when you are putting the numbers in order to cross them out as you go so that you know you have not forgotten any. It is always good to count the numbers in your list and the numbers in the original list to make sure you have the same amount and did not forget any. There may be times that a number is in a list more than once. You must write it down EVERY TIME!

Let’s Practice! Put these numbers in order least to greatest Now tell the MINIMUM NUMBER in the group. MINIMUM =

Let’s Practice! Put these numbers in order from least to greatest Now tell me the MAXIMUM VALUE MAXIMUM=

LET’S PRACTICE! Put these numbers in order from smallest to largest Now tell me the RANGE ______ - ______ = ______ { RANGE }

MORE PRACTICE Put the list in order first This time tell me BOTH the MINIMUM & MAXIMUM MINIMUM=MAXIMUM=

ANOTHER PRACTICE You need to put the list in order Now tell me the RANGE ______ - ______= ______

TIME FOR MORE PRACTICE MINIMUM= MAXIMUM= RANGE= ___ - ___=_____

KEEP PRACTICING MINIMUM= MAXIMUM= RANGE= ___ - ___=_____

ANOTHER PROBLEM FOR YOU MINIMUM= MAXIMUM= RANGE= ___ - ___=_____

MORE MINIMUM, MAXIMUM, RANGE MINIMUM= MAXIMUM= RANGE= ___ - ___=_____

CORRECT ORDER: MINIMUM= MAXIMUM= RANGE=

First place this list in order Now tell me the MINIMUM MAXIMUM RANGE

ORDER= MINIMUM MAXIMUM RANGE

WHAT IS THE minimum? WHAT IS THE maximum? WHAT IS THE range?
