Description The Narwhal population is about 45,000-50,000 left. Mostly found in Russian and Atlantic waters. They are sometimes found swimming around Greenland.

Size Weight Females weigh about 1000 kg at maturity. Males weigh about 1600 kg at maturity. At birth they are 160 cm.

Migration Narwhal whales do migrate. They migrate in winter to warmer waters. Their only relative is the Beluga whale.

An Endangered Species Narwhals are an endangered species of whale but are very playful. Scientists don’t know very much about narwhals.

Coloration And Markings Narwhals are grey and white to help blend with their surroundings. Their known for their long tusks.

Social Whales Narwhals are very social animals. Their only relative is the beluga whale which is also a very social animal.

Tusks Many narwhals are hunted for their tusks. Luckily most whale hunting has stopped in most countries. The government is doing very much to protect our ecosystem.

Narwhals Name The word narwhal means "corpse whale" in Norwegian. They are called that because they swim on their backs and swim very slowly. They look like their dead!

Eating Facts Narwhals have do not use their large teeth (tusks) to hunt. The females sometimes grow a small tooth of their own. The tooth grows right threw their upper lip! The tusk is not a tusk is really a tooth!
